Students stage a sit in at the College of Wooster

" The origins of the sit-in began Jan. 13 when students learned of
racist memes posted in a private Facebook group by a senior, who is a
member of the Wooster Right Wingers, the only conservative political
club on campus. Students said he also indicated he liked alt-right
YouTube videos.

On Jan. 14 more than 300 students, staff, and faculty came to the
student center "to talk about the profound harm these postings caused, a
harm magnified by the daily racism and discrimination experienced by
people of color," Bolton said in a Jan. 18 email to campus.

The college began an investigation of the student when it learned of the allegations.

"The student has been removed from campus while the student conduct process is ongoing," spokesman John Hopkins said Wednesday."

  •  It's hard to take this seriously without seeing what the guy said.

    Maybe
he's a nazi twatwaffle who need a boot in his 4th point of contact or
maybe he's the latest victim of the SJW/Antifa crowd, an ironic name if
    there ever was one.

I looked for some content related to this group.  Facebook has taken their page down,

This group was started in April 2017.  They put up flyers.  The flyers were deemed offensive and disturbing because they featured an illustration of an eagle, a cross (this is seen as islamo"phobic") and the phrase "America First".  The school had to have a teach in about the validity of comparisons between Hitler and DJT, the conclusion being "no" on anti-semitism, but "yes" on the employment of bigotry in politics.

The administration has responded to the sit in with a plan to require all incoming freshmen to take a "cultural competence" class.  If they like that they can take a new class about understanding trump voters.

"Roche usually teaches an upper-level history seminar on a topic from
American politics. With this course in particular, though, he wanted to
have what he called a more “democratic” experience. With Trump’s
presidency evolving in real time with the course, he hopes to upset the
traditional model of a professor deciding on topics and moving between
    them in a seminar class."

Assume the student wrote something genuinely racist on his facebook page, and not just something others in the bubble didn't like.  An investigation and removing the student from campus, followed by a freshman indoctrination program?

    That's nutty.

It’s probably not a good sign that we agree on this.

    Oh I don't know...

I think the gene pool could use a bit of chlorine.

I don't disagree, but I think we're potentially on the verge of something more seismic than an improvement in hygiene.
  • Between who?

I don't know if "between who" is an entirely relevant question. On some issues, sure, it's pretty clear, but others...it's way too messy.
